In my last post, I discussed the fact that mineral oil was not comedogenic (won't clog pores) and can actually help dissolve sebum plugs within the pores. However, I also stated that jojoba oil is a MUCH BETTER choice, especially if you prefer to use an 'oil' that ISN'T a petroleum derivative.
Jojoba oil really isn't an oil at all. It's a naturally occurring ester that is actually a wax. Jojoba oil comes from a shrub that grows in the arid regions of southern California, Arizona and northwest Mexico. The plant will begin bearing seeds only after reaching 5 years of maturity. It actually takes 1200 of these shrubs to produce one pound of jojoba nuts, which then will only yield approximately 50% oil!
Fabulous Benefits!
Jojoba oil is similar to the skin's own sebum and aids in balancing the sebaceous glands. It contains vitamins, protein and minerals, as well as waxy substance similar to collagen. Jojoba oil has an almost indefinite shelf life, is hypo-allergenic and perfect for ALL skin types; even the oiliest. It's non-comedogenic (won't clog pores) and non-acnegenic (won't cause breakouts).
For those who suffer from breakouts, jojoba oil can help aid in the reduction of acne by inhibiting certain types of bacteria from the epidermis while also dissolving hardened sebum plugs (comedones). Jojoba oil brings the skin back into balance by restoring it to a natural pH level.
Jojoba oil easily penetrates the pores to reduce water loss. It acts as a humectant by creating a protective barrier over the skin's surface that seals in moisture. Unlike other oils, it doesn't leave a greasy-feeling. Instead, the skin is left feeling soft and smooth. Also,it can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, stretch marks and helps to lighten and heal scars. Due to these cosmetic properties, Native Americans highly regard jojoba oil as almost having mystical powers.
At PRIIA Cosmetics, we love to use golden jojoba oil in many of our formulas because of the incredible benefits stated above. Here are a few of our products where you'll find this amazing skin care ingredient: Essential Cover Loose Mineral Foundation, BEHAVE Finishing Powder, Exotic Oil Cleanse, About 2 Pout Natural Lip Gloss and Double Duty Firming Face & Eye Gel.
