In my last post, I asked, "Do oily skin types need LESS moisture than dry skin types?"
The answer to this question is NO. I can also say the answer is FALSE if I were making the statement that oily skin needs less moisture than dry skin.
Oil and water levels within the skin are 2 very different things. Did you know that over 78% of individuals with oily skin types are actually DEHYDRATED. This creates a vicious cycle: the skin is oily yet dehydrated (lacking sufficient moisture) and then begins to produce more oil because of the imbalance. This process will continue to repeat itself over and over until the problem is addressed and corrected.
The plain and simple truth is that ALL skin types need the proper amount of hydration to look their best and stay balanced. Oily skin types should look for a water-based moisturizer, whereas dry skin types should look for a oil-based moisturizer. The exception to this 'rule' for oily skin types would be when using natural oils that are non-comedogenic (will not clog pores) to balance the skin such as jojoba oil and argan oil.
If you have oily skin, your best bet would be to use a water-based moisturizer first and then apply a few drops of jojoba or argan oil over top in order to "seal" that moisturizer within the skin's surface.

Wow this is really interesting. I have very oily skin and thought it was the opposite. What you say does make sense though.

Next question... would using mineral foundation everyday make my skin more dehydrated and therefor even more oily?

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed. Really a nice post here!

Sally- it really depends on the type/brand of mineral foundation you're using. Some formulas are more oil-absorbing than others. In general though, using a mineral foundation won't dehydrate you skin.
