The world as we know it is changing right before our very eyes. Stress levels are at an all-time high due to the volatile economy and impending presidential election. Oh, and can you believe the holiday shopping season is already knocking at our doors?!?!?
It's at times like these that we, as women, with the myriad of stressors constantly looming over our heads, can tend to forget to take time to treat ourselves to some personal pampering. Understandibly though, you may not have the time or the funds right now to be able to book a spa treatment appointment. That's OK. All you need are just a few simple ingredients to make a deeply relaxing treatment that you can whip up anytime in the comfort of your own home!
What treatment am I talking about? A soothing and moisturizing foot massage of course!
Ssshhh...don't tell your massage therapist!
For centuries, the herb thyme has been used for its healing and soothing properties. It's antibacterial and wonderfully aromatic and relaxing as well. Combo thyme with some lavender and you'll be saying "Aaahhh..." in no 'thyme' flat!
Here's what I like to do for some instant stress relief:
1) Take your favorite moisturizer or body lotion (approx. 2 Tbsp- I prefer a product with shea butter) and add 3 drops Thyme Essential Oil and 3 drops Lavender Essential Oil.
2) Whip together in a small mixing bowl and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
3) While the mixture is sitting, put a pair of white cotton socks and a bath towel in the dryer and set on high heat for a few minutes. Remove and keep the socks wrapped in the bath towel to hold in the heat.
4) Next, massage the moisturizer on your feet starting at your heels and working up to your toes. (Feels even better when you have someone else do it for you! Bribery works well.)
5) Lastly, put the heated socks on your feet and wrap the towel around them and relax.
I recommend doing this treatment at night and wearing the socks to bed for an even more intense and moisturizing treatment. Plus, the aromatic vapors of the essential oils can help you fall into a deep, blissful sleep. Enjoy!
*Check with your doctor first before using essential oils- espeically if you are pregnant or have epilepsy.
What do you think?
Does this treatment sound like something you'd do for yourself? Do you already have an at-home spa treatment that you like to do? I'd love to hear your thoughts about how you're taking care of you!

What a simple and GREAT idea. I plan to try this---and maybe invite my mom over to partake too....all that I will add is a nice glass of wine...or maybe some Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa!

Great idea! Something I really need to do more of especially since the weather is so dry here. I love shea butter and cant wait to order another batch!

Thanks for commenting Carla! I've tried other moisturizers with this treatment but I just keep coming back to shea. Plus, the heat from this treatment just forces that shea to hydrate even more. It's just wonderful!

I love that we can relax with spa treatments at home, but there's jusst nothing better than going to a spa to be pampered.

I do agree that nothing truly compares to being pampered at a spa, however, when budgets are tight but you still need some R&R, at-home treatments are the answer!
