A few days ago I created a beautiful JADE color matte eyeshadow. I worked really hard on this particular shade; it was difficult to get it just right. It was late at night when I formulated this color and I wrote down the ingredients on a scratch piece of paper (Post It note). The following day I cleaned up the previous evening's experiments, disinfected my lab area and went on about my day.
Last night I decided to log my matte shadow formulas into my laptop. Well, when I went to look for the JADE shadow formula it was gone! My stomach sank. Where could I have put it??? I began to retrace my steps... My stomach sank further- I THREW OUT the Jade shadow formula!!! Tons of emotions ran through my head and then I remembered the garbage hadn't been picked up yet. Do you know what I did next? Yup, I put on my gloves, a mask and an old t-shirt and into the garbage dumpster I climbed! Ick!
Bag by bag I sifted through coffee grinds, orange peels, green pieces of I-don't-know-what and things that smelled like old gym socks. Oh how gross! And then...could it be?.. Yes! I found that little piece of scratch paper with the Jade matte shadow formula! EUREKA! I proceeded to remove the cement-like clumps of scrambled eggs that were stuck to this invaluable piece of paper, climbed out of the dumpster and whispered a little prayer that I wouldn't come down with a staph infection after this fiasco.
After taking a loooong hot shower, I immediately logged the Jade shadow formula into my laptop and decided to call it a night. So what did I learn from this debacle? WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN IN MY FORMULATING NOTEBOOK! Post It notes are no longer allowed anywhere near my formulating studio!
